My voting scale

Just for the record, here is a comparative scale of how I vote the Audio Portal and what the ratings mean to me:

0 - No Audible Effort; Noise; silence is better. I personally have not found anything like that here on NG, but goto audiotool.com: overabundance. Two loops do not make a song, unless you are a wizard and chop them up real fine and make a good arrangement. That'll get you a 3 for effort if you can impress me. I've never heard of anyone trying that though.

1 - Learning; better than a kid pounding a piano; the artist's direction with the song is visible, albeit barely. Bad dubstep with/or really bad mixing/mastering to point of utterly ruining the piece.

2 - Underdeveloped; Pleasant to the ear, but much unrealized potential; sounds empty or dull and not much originality/creativity; sounds like all the other 2's.

3 - Song; has some character; the artist's direction is clear and personal style is starting to show; almost there; just a bit more potential to fulfill and it's gold. Submissions like these are the ones I review the most.

4 - Memorable; the potential is fulfilled; "complete"; the artist's vision is realized. Download worthy. Improvement will require serious thought and a plan.

5 - Pro Quality; sounds like it could make money; has strong synergy ("epic feel"); very good mixing/mastering or no audible sound quality flaws. Flawless in execution and design.

If a song can maintain a 4.45 or higher after many votes and/or months, given how there are zero bombers, I consider that to be equivalent to a 5. ~15-20 votes after at least 3 months is the rough minimum for me to consider a song this way.

If you can get at least 3's on your submissions, you've got the potential and talent. Keep going and push yourself, and you'll be getting 4's and 5's. Don't doubt it for a second that you can't get a 5.
